Faith Like a Child

Published On September 22, 2025

Baptism is an outward expression of an inward change. It symbolizes our old self being washed away by the blood of Christ, and our new self, rising to walk with him. There is nothing magical about the touch of the water, the words spoken, or the setting of the baptism that causes our lives to transform. The power is in the Holy Spirit and our acceptance of the invitation to walk with our Savior.

The good news that we can have eternal life through Jesus is for all people, no matter their background, where they were born, their education, or their age. When he was just eleven years old, Colton made the decision to follow Jesus, representing that inward choice with the outward expression of being baptized. He shares that he wanted to be baptized “to proclaim my faith to the world and let everyone know that I believe in Jesus.”

While attending Sky Ranch camp, Colton accepted Jesus into his life. Experiencing excitement, hope, and joy through salvation, he wanted to be baptized at the church where his siblings, parents, and grandparents have attended for many years. On Sunday, Aug. 10, surrounded by friends and family, he stood in front of the congregation of HP Pres and declared his faith in Jesus.

Trusting God does not mean that you never ask questions or that you will never experience challenges in your faith. Colton made the decision to follow Jesus but shares that he enjoys “asking my parents lots of questions about what I am learning.” Childlike faith reminds us to stay curious, to be excited about Jesus, and to understand that there is someone, full of wisdom and love, watching over us.

God longs for a personal relationship with each of us. It’s not complicated or hard to reach. In Colton’s words, “Being a Christian means believing in God and trusting Jesus as your Lord and Savior.” It’s as simple as that.
