My Life in God’s Hands
As the youngest of three siblings, Emmy has watched kids older than her go through the confirmation process. Now that she is in seventh grade, she’s experiencing it for herself and learning to take ownership of her faith. Throughout the confirmation process, students are invited to evaluate Jesus’ teaching, and their own hearts, to decide what they believe for themselves.
The seeds planted early in her life by her family and friends started taking root in Emmy’s heart this year. She’d known about God’s love before, but things started to change in the confirmation process. As her relationship with Jesus grew, she made the decision to be baptized. She shares that by being baptized, “I’m putting my life in God’s hands and putting my trust in him.”
Emmy has had the support of her friends and family throughout her faith journey but was excited to make this decision for herself – not because her friends did it too or because her family encouraged her to take this step, but because she wanted to. She shares, “I’m really excited to finally have this moment. I’m trying to take it in and let It be for myself. It was my decision and I feel like it’s going to change my life.”
Baptism, at any age, is a celebration of God’s salvation. The water itself holds no special power but is a representation of the new life we receive through Jesus. Our sins are washed away, and we rise to walk in new life with our savior. The confirmation process brought Emmy closer to God, and sparked the next step in her faith. She was baptized on Sunday, Feb. 15 as a statement of her faith in Jesus. She shares, “I feel closer to God. It’s something I’ve been waiting to do for so long and I’m so glad I decided to be baptized.”
Like Emmy, we all have questions about faith – and just like it did for her, finding the answer can change your life. To learn more about what it means to be baptized, visit hppres.org/baptism.
