In the Footsteps of Christ
Last Sunday, marked an incredible day in the life of our church family. The Chinese church plant of HP Pres officially became an ECO chartered church, Highland Park Presbyterian Chinese Church (HPPCC). Pastor of the Chinese church, Ben Wang, shares, “On this special Palm Sunday, we humbly seek to follow in the footsteps of our Lord Jesus Christ—willing to pay the price for the triumph of God’s kingdom—together with HP Pres and all God’s people, for the glory of His wonderful name.”
The vision for a Chinese church ministry at HP Pres began in 2009. In 2010, Pastor Ben and his wife Esther were called from Los Angeles to Dallas to plant a Chinese congregation. The ministry first began with campus outreach at SMU and UT Southwestern Medical Center. The Chinese church was launched in April 2011, marking this year as the 15th anniversary of the Chinese church. Pastor Ben shares, “We praise the Lord and give thanks for the faithful support of our mother church. Over the past 15 years, we have witnessed God’s wonderful work, with more than 300 adults baptized, including many students, scholars, faculty members, and professionals from the Chinese community.”
In addition to campus ministries, family fellowships have also been established with a focus on neighborhood outreach. This foundation continues to influence the reach of the Chinese church in our city to this day. Two years ago, HPPCC launched the Solid Rock Chinese Church in Richardson, reaching the communities around UT Dallas and the DFW Chinatown area and becoming the first “granddaughter church” of HP Pres.
Pastor Ben shares, “From the beginning, our calling has not been to exist for ourselves, but to serve the Great Commission.” Looking ahead, the newly chartered Chinese church will remain on the HP Pres campus as an incubator for future church multiplication, with the prayerful vision of planting more churches across the DFW area and beyond.
