Kids Helping Kids
Community Partners of Dallas serves over 20,000 kids every year by providing caseworkers with resources like birthday boxes, clothes and toys, and a safe, neutral place to bring kids to rest when they are removed from their homes unexpectedly. Jennifer, Vice President of Operations at Community Partners of Dallas, shares “Everyone in our community can participate in the work we do. Even the small things can be a big impact.”
This year, HP Pres had the opportunity to partner with Community Partners of Dallas at Vacation Bible School. Kids began the week learning about our local and global mission partners then decorated and packed snack bags that will be given to kids in the child welfare system. They closed out the week creating a “safe home” card that they can keep as a reminder to pray for the kids and families who are impacted by the child welfare system. Jennifer shares, “We are thrilled to be the outreach partner for VBS because we love to see kids helping kids. We are very intentional about involving hands of all ages and sizes into our outreach and really encourage parents to bring their kids along when they volunteer.”
By inviting our kids to participate in outreach opportunities at an early age, we are teaching them how to love people like Jesus does. Jennifer shares of the importance of involving our kids in outreach, “It teaches them that children experiencing child welfare systems are not just in other communities. They’re in our community and are no different than our kids in that they want to be valued and cared for.”
The kids attending VBS packed snack bags that will be distributed through Community Partners of Dallas to caseworkers in our area. Jennifer shares, “Things like this go a long way in helping build trust with kids in the child welfare system. It gives caseworkers a happy reason to show up.”
