Students Leading with Boldness
As Edie’s time in high school comes to an end, she’s preparing for college and reflecting on her years in the student ministry at HP Pres. Her family began attending the church regularly when she was in elementary. Since then, she has developed a strong circle of friends and a passion for leading others. She shares, “I love the community at church. One of the reasons HP Pres has felt like home is because of the other students who I’ve grown up with.”
For the past three years, Edie has been a part of the Student Lead Team. Alongside her longtime friends, she has helped organize events, learned to share her testimony, and mentored younger students. She shares, “Lead team has challenged me to view our ministry as something that I’m not just on the receiving end of. I’m always thinking about how I can do my part. It’s helped me think about others more.”
Growing up in the church, Edie has been mentored by volunteers, staff, and other students who care about her and her faith in Jesus. Having experienced that for herself, it was a natural next step to pour back into the community she loves so much. She shares, “Being part of the High School ministry has been one of my favorite things. I don’t know what the past few years would have been like without it.”
We all feel the need to be known. That is especially true for high school students. Having a place where they are loved and supported, not just by their teachers and parents, but by their peers, can have a huge impact on their lives. Students, like Edie, who are on the Lead Team are using their skills and testimonies to create an environment where everyone is welcome to experience God’s love and be truly known.
No matter your age, God wants to use you for incredible things. In Edie’s words, “God calls us all to make disciples. He is always inviting us to be bold in our faith and do things that are out of our comfort zone.” All things are possible through him.
