Music With Meaning
Caroline’s background as a professional musician and hunger to find a music program that puts God first, brought her to HP Pres. Soon after she joined the Highland Park Chorale, she began teaching music to our kids and students.
In choir, kids learn that they are a part of something bigger than themselves. They get the opportunity to be creative, work together, and develop self-discipline. She shares “It’s in the culture of our program for the kids to develop an emotional and spiritual language that will help them cope and succeed even as they get older.”
More important than learning the foundations of music, children also learn the foundations of faith. Each month, they memorize a new Bible verse and hymn. Caroline explains that “Everything we do is informed by scripture. We’re giving them a language to pull from for the rest of their lives.” Their intention is that kids will understand they can be messengers of God through the way they worship.
Caroline’s own faith grew while watching the kids’ curiosity about worship. She shares that “they show me that it’s okay to question and have fun learning about God.” Their childlike wonder reminds her to approach God the way they do – unashamed and full of hope.
