Let Heaven and Nature Sing
Something special happens when people lift their voices in song with one another. We find ways to harmonize, work together, and rely on each other. Music connects us, reminding us that we aren’t alone and that we all have something to offer.
For sisters, Celine (pictured left) and Sophia (right), the HP Pres children’s choir has become a place to make friends, sing at the top of their lungs, and learn what it means to be lifelong worshipers. Celine shares, “I love spending time with my friends and being able to sing with them. It’s really fun.”
Learning the songs alongside their fellow choir members, the two sisters feel safe to use their voices however they like. Sophia shares, “I learned that, in choir, you can sing any type of song. You can just let your voice out. You don’t have to be afraid that people will be judgmental about it. In choir, you can just let it all out.”
Celine and Sophia are both looking forward to learning new music and performing in the musical, but more importantly, they have found a place of belonging in choir. Having recently moved to Dallas from the UK, the girls have made fast friends with their fellow singers. Each week, they look forward to seeing their friends and learning new ways that they can use their voices. Sophia shares, “It makes me feel closer to God. I just feel like choir is the place I’m meant to be.”
Singing together, we learn to appreciate people’s differences, uplift their strengths, and challenge each other to grow. In Celine’s words, “You all have your own talent.” God created humankind in his image, giving us a spirit of creativity that mirrors our Father in Heaven. He designed us to be curious and creative in community with each other. Each part of the song matters, the different pieces creating one masterpiece, together.
