The Little Things Add Up
For the past ten years, Lorin (pictured far left) and her husband, Chris’, faith has been shaped through the deep fellowship they’ve found in their Community Group. The group connected years ago as young adults who were all in the same life stage and looking for a support system. Lorin shares, “We really needed community then and still do. It’s been so wonderful to have a group to do life with. To have that community support and fellowship with people who pray for each other and learn together has been a huge blessing.”
As time passed, the way their group supported, encouraged, and challenged one another adapted. Now, as they manage busy schedules, work, and parenting, weekly meetings aren’t always possible. But the relationships have stayed strong despite the busyness of life. Lorin shares, “We’ve walked this journey together and been friends for so long. We really have grown to take care of one another and love each other the way Jesus loves us.”
Step by step, Lorin and the others in their Community Group have built a trusted support system that can be relied upon through the good and hard moments of life. Lorin recalls how many times she’s felt loved by their group over the years, sharing, “It’s so valuable to have those friends in your life that can support you and love you no matter what. Having these friends who are also believers is so important because as you’re getting closer to them, you’re also getting closer to Jesus.”
A strong community can take time to build. Little moments like checking in when you haven’t seen a friend in church for a few weeks or sending that text to grab coffee all add up. It can be easy to define our faith in Christ by the mountain top moments, but in the words of Eugene Peterson, “Discipleship is a long obedience in the same direction.”
