Searching for Answers

Mellie (pictured left) learned the basics of the Christian faith as a child but eventually stepped away from church when she was in college after years of struggling to feel like she fit in at her church. It wasn’t until she was navigating a season of divorce that things began to change. Through this journey of loss and rebuilding, God began to work in her heart. During that time, Mellie would read the Bible for comfort, clinging to the words of hope she read in Scripture. 

When a friend invited her to attend Alpha, it felt like it was the perfect next step to answer all her questions about the passages of Scripture she had been reading. Mellie shares, “It was transformational for me because it was God calling me back in from a time where I had stepped away from my faith. It provided me a safe place to seek and meet people in the church. I got to connect with people from all generations and backgrounds. It really pulled me back to the Lord.” 

As time passed, Mellie’s faith continued to grow and she soon started leading Alpha groups herself. She invited her friends and coworkers to attend because she saw the good it did in her own life to experience a safe, casual environment where no question about faith is off limits. She shares, “You don’t need to be a Christ follower to come to Alpha. I would encourage everyone to think about who they know who may be searching, questioning, or simply curious about faith, and invite them to come.” 

We all have questions about life, faith, and our purpose. Having a safe environment that fosters that curiosity is often just the beginning of a life-long journey. Mellie shares, “Every person’s journey is completely and utterly unique. No one person’s journey that I’ve seen has been the same. But I have seen how Alpha has pulled all these people into relationship with Jesus.”
