Equipping the Next Generation

Kyle and Sarah have volunteered in the Highland Kids ministry for many years. Starting in Early Childhood when their oldest son was born then moving to Elementary as both of their sons grew older, they have witnessed God’s love through the eyes of their children. Sarah shares, “Their questions open up such great conversations about our faith, and I feel like that’s been the coolest thing for me. It makes me think about questions I haven’t considered since I was a little kid.”

The passion that Kyle and Sarah have for their faith feels contagious. Both have made the lifelong commitment of following Jesus and still have a wonder and excitement about God’s love all these years later. Because of the joy their family has found in Christ, they are ready and willing to invite their friends to come experience this love for themselves. Their children are following their example, inviting their friends to church events like VBS. Sarah reminisces on how one of her son’s friends got to hear about Jesus for the first time because of this invitation. She shares, “The emotion that I felt watching a little boy discover a love for Jesus overtook me. There were tears streaming down my face as I saw how our church made a difference in the life of a child.”

Growing up at HP Pres, Kyle can still point to people in the church who shaped his faith as a child, some of whom are still involved in the children’s ministry to this day. When he and Sarah became parents, they both knew that they wanted to follow in the steps of their own spiritual mentors by volunteering in the Highland Kids ministry as well. Kyle shares, “It’s full circle because I realize the impact it had on my own faith as a child and what a strong base it provides for you later in life.”

As parents, it is a joy to be a witness to your children’s growing faith, but there is also a profound wonder in seeing God’s love through the eyes of other children. We are excited to see how God is at work in the lives of our families and are welcoming new faces to Highland Kids each week. Every hand makes a difference as we invite people to find and follow Jesus alongside us. You can help equip the next generation by volunteering one Sunday a month in Highland Kids.
