After moving to Dallas for work in 2023, Nicholas was invited to a Bible study at HP Pres by a coworker and quickly fell in love with our church’s sense of community and dedication to Christ’s mission. Growing up, community outreach was an important part of his life, so he was pleased to see God working in tangible ways through HP Pres. He shares, “We’re committed to being an active reflection of Jesus in our city. This is really a church who acts as the hands and feet of God in our community.”

For the second year in a row, Nicholas participated in Transform Dallas with the Young Adult ministry from HP Pres. This year, the group returned to serve at a resource center that they helped refresh at the citywide workday last summer, making it a welcoming and safe space for patrons to visit. Nicholas shares, “It matters to people in the community when you have an opportunity to improve the place where they get their resources. It was really special to be the people who got to do this for them.”

Partnering with Dallas Leadership Foundation each year at Transform Dallas, volunteers spread out at various locations in our city to pack and donate food boxes, help with construction and beautification projects, and uplift the people of our city with the love of Christ. Nicholas recalls how the city-wide workday ignited his faith in new ways, sharing, “We are not called to be passive participants in our faith journey. It’s so much easier to have conversations about faith when you are actively living it out.”

During his earthly ministry, Jesus gave us the template for sharing his love with the world. Meeting people’s physical needs is a significant part of that blueprint. Before Jesus preached the Gospel, he fed the hungry and healed the sick. We can show up for the people in our community the same way, utilizing “whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms” (1 Peter 4:10).

As our city continues to expand, so do the needs of the people who live here. Transform Dallas is just one way that we can meet people where they are, addressing their physical needs and opening a door for them to learn more about Jesus.
