Session Update – March 2023
The Session of Highland Park Presbyterian Church is the ruling body of our congregation, charged with governance, overseeing the Church’s spiritual health, and guiding its mission for Christ in the world. To better do this, the Session frequently communicates with the congregation of HP Pres to report its decisions and activities.
On Monday, March 27, our Session met after prayer and fasting to discuss leading HP Pres. Below are some of the highlights from the meeting that you should be aware of and pray for this next month. If you have questions or feedback about any of these topics, you can contact the Session at hppres.org/elders.
- Will McCall, President and CEO of Dallas Leadership Foundation, led the Session in a devotional based on Ephesians 4:1-3.
- The Session spent time in prayer, lamenting the loss of life at the Covenant School In Nashville, TN, and praying for God’s intervention in the days to come.
- We want you to know that HP Pres is committed to providing the safest environment possible for everyone on our campus. For the last 18 months, we have been proactively building an in-house security team based on best practices in church and school safety protocols. If your child participates in one of the schools on our campus, then you have already received detailed information regarding our campus safety. If you would like further information regarding our campus safety plans and protocols, please reach out to Ken Merrill, our head of campus security.
- Walter Teter, our Commissioned Lay Pastor and long-time presence at HP Pres, has accepted a call to become the Associate Pastor at Hackberry Creek Presbyterian Church! Help us send him and his wife, Amy, to their new calling during the April 23 11 am Sanctuary service, with a reception to follow.
- One of our elders, Kelsey Phillips, will be preaching on the topic of prayer on April 23 in our 11 am Elliott Hall service.
- Our Director of Outreach, Judi Wheeler, shared about the Mission’s team plans to help raise and educate globally minded Christians of all ages at our church through education and experiences. We’re excited to share more stories about what Christ is doing through our missions team and opportunities to be involved in the months to come. Learn more about how we’re engaged globally at hppres.org/global.
- Andy Raub, Director of Generosity, gave an update on the progress of our Transform campaign. You can check your giving, or make a new gift, at hppres.org/give.
