Session Update – February 2023

Published On March 1, 2023

The Session of Highland Park Presbyterian Church is the ruling body of our congregation, charged with governance, overseeing the Church’s spiritual health, and guiding its mission for Christ in the world. To better do this, the Session frequently communicates with the congregation of HP Pres to report its decisions and activities.

On Monday, February 27, our Session met after a time of prayer and fasting to discuss leading HP Pres. Below are some of the highlights from the meeting that you should be aware of and pray for this next month. If you have questions or feedback about any of these topics, you can contact the Session at hppres.org/elders.

  • One of our returning Elders, Andrew Campbell, shared their testimony with the Session.
  • We’re excited to announce that Emily Scates, one of our current Pastoral Residents and long-time presence at HP Pres, has been called by our Session to be ordained as our Pastor of Discipleship on Sunday, March 26. Congratulations Emily! More details about her ordination will be shared with our congregation soon.
  • There will be a congregational meeting on Sunday, March 26, to elect new Elders and Deacons. Details about the meeting time and location, and information about the nominees, will be made available soon.
  • Wes Nichols, Pastor of Students, shared an update with the Session about the growth taking place in Highland Students.
  • Jay Lee, Executive Pastor, gave an update on the ECO Church Planting process and shared information about the pathway a church plant can take to become an independently chartered ECO church.
  • Josh Peck, Pastor of Formation, shared about the care and counseling resources available at HP Pres. You can learn more at hppres.org/care.
  • Several key metrics were shared with our Elders, including giving, worship attendance, and the number of people participating in Discipleship Conversations, which all help to paint a picture of a growing and thriving church. We’re grateful for all that God is doing at HP Pres.
