Sofia's Baptism

A Transformed Life

Published On October 11, 2023

At the start of 2023, Sofia was attending college in her home state of Arizona. She had a good life with good friends, but she felt like something was missing. On her twentieth birthday she decided it was time for a change and moved to Dallas to live with her aunt and uncle.

Although some of her family members were Christians, Sofia did not grow up in a home that went to church regularly and didn’t know what it meant to have personal relationship with God. About a year before she moved to Dallas, her dad found God and began praying that Sofia and her brother would also come to know Jesus.

The very first week she was living in Dallas, Sofia came to HP Pres with her aunt and uncle. During the service, an announcement was made about the college Bible study. She felt compelled to see what it was like since she didn’t know many people in the city. That is when her life completely changed.

Throughout the Bible study, she learned what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus. She was surrounded with piers and mentors that were invested in her life and well-being in a way that gave her living examples of what God’s love looks like.

After several months of attending Sunday service and the weekly college Bible study, another announcement was made during service. This time it was about baptisms, and Sofia knew that it was time to take the next step in her faith. Alongside her uncle and cousin, Sofia will be solidifying everything she’s been working towards this summer through this expression of faith. In her own words, Sofia says, “I have a long way to go, and I never think that you’re done growing. But finally for the first time in my life, I’m excited to see what the future holds.”

God was at work in Sofia’s life long before she moved to Dallas. One-by-one people are coming to Christ because of the prayers of her family members. God is always at work weaving the tapestry of salvation throughout the world. We are celebrating just a tiny thread in his grand design through this family’s baptism and look forward to the day when we will see the full picture of God’s goodness.
