When It Matters the Most
The time we have with our children while they’re young is a beautiful but fleeting season. Nick and Alison know first-hand how precious that time can be with your children. When their eldest son was still an infant, he was diagnosed with a very rare cancer. During his treatment, they were surrounded with love and support from their church community at HP Pres. Alison shares, “We got to be the recipients of the church body at work – we were prayed for, fed, and encouraged by some people we’ve never met, and that made a profound impact on us.”
God carried their family through one of the hardest battles parents could ever imagine. Their son overcame his illness and is now living a healthy life alongside his two siblings. Reflecting on the support they received from the church during this season, they soon recognized that staying connected to this community was a top priority. When choosing where to serve in the church, the Early Childhood and Highland Kids ministries made sense for their young family. Nick shares, “It’s extremely rewarding to watch your kids connect with their friends and the lesson, and to see them grow in their faith.”
Over the years, Nick and Alison have served on Sunday mornings in Highland Kids and Early Childhood as well as the week of Vacation Bible School. Alison shares, “Serving others is at the heart of the gospel. In this season, it means investing in these children and living out the lessons we teach.”
Without volunteers like Nick and Alison, we would not be able to host hundreds of kids for VBS each year. For some of the kids, VBS is the only experience they have of God’s love. We all have the chance to make a difference in their faith by volunteering to serve during this fun-filled week. In Nick’s words, “You don’t have to be an expert. You just need to be there.”
