Serving Together
For the past fifteen years, Lee can be found welcoming people to church on Sunday mornings. Often greeting newcomers on the front lawn, she shares “I like how personal it is when I’m greeting on a Sunday. I love connecting with people that way.” Throughout our campus, volunteers like Lee make our church feel like home for every person who walks by.
Reflecting on the day Lee and her husband, Frank, first attended HP Pres, she recalls how they “came on a crowded day and got the impression that this was a vibrant church.” At the time, they had just moved from Houston to Dallas for Frank’s work. They were looking for a place they could form a community and soon started to build relationships with the other young people and families at the church.
When their children were born, Lee and her husband started getting more involved in the church and chose to volunteer in the kid’s ministry to be close to their children. As the years passed, their children grew but Lee continued to find ways to pour back into her church home. Serving as a Deacon, leader in various Bible studies, and welcoming face on Sunday mornings, Lee recalls “I think I ended up a greeter out of divine providence. It’s nothing I’m doing – it’s all God!”
Although her years of volunteering have looked different over time, Lee’s joy in serving has remained much the same. She shares of greeting on Sunday mornings, “It’s good to see my community this way. Seeing people in person means so much in a world that’s so online.”
Every cup of coffee poured, every smile shared, and every Worship Guide given on a Sunday morning is an opportunity to welcome people into our church. By stepping out boldly and choosing to serve our church and its congregation, you are helping people find and follow Jesus Christ.
Thank you to Lee and volunteers like her! You make our church feel like home.
