Habitual Generosity
Baptized as an infant at HP Pres, Kathleen characterizes the church as her “second home.” Her involvement with Fish & Loaves started when a former chairperson nominated her to co-chair the program. Twenty years later, Kathleen still looks forward to volunteering each Advent season. “I think it’s a fantastic way for people to support local and international organizations that they may have never heard of before.”
Fish & Loaves encourages a spirit of generosity during the holidays by partnering with organizations that provide services for people all around the world who need it the most. Kathleen shares, “It’s a reminder of the Christmas spirit of giving when we receive much more than we ever give. God nurtures that good feeling to help us grow more closely in our walk with him.”
Generosity extends beyond the Advent season but programs like Fish & Loaves are often the catalyst for people to practice generosity in their daily lives. Kathleen continues to volunteer year-round in other areas of the church, practicing generosity in ways that have a lasting impact. She shares, “When you receive the generosity of Christ, it stimulates the ‘servant’s heart’ in all of us. Anything done on a daily basis becomes a habit so once you start it’s kind of hard to stop.”
The gift of God’s love is celebrated during the Christmas season but is just the beginning of walking daily with him. In the new year, consider how God is calling you to grow deeper in your faith through generosity of your time, treasures, and talents.
