Funding Compassion

Published On June 27, 2025

When LaToyia moved to Dallas, she had dreams of new opportunities and better resources for her children. Her daughter (11) and son (9) both experience challenges in school so LaToyia wanted to find a place where they would thrive. She shares, “Education is so important. My kids really needed to be in a school that could help them do their best.”

The area of Dallas where they lived did not have schools with the programs her children needed so LaToyia began the search for a better district. When they found a school the kids loved, new challenges arose with their finances that made it difficult for them to move. LaToyia reflects, “I was in a financial bind at that time and wasn’t sure I was going to make it.”

That’s when LaToyia was connected to the Compassion Fund at HP Pres. The financial assistance she received helped her achieve the fresh start for her family that she’d been dreaming of when she first moved to Dallas. She reflects on hearing the news of receiving assistance, “I was ecstatic to know that someone was going help me! I was just so happy.”

Working hard each day to provide for her family, LaToyia continues to build a life where her children can be safe, happy, and successful. “My kids are much happier. I’m much happier because I know that they’re getting a good education,” she shares. At their new school, both her children are thriving and loving their new home!

Having a safe, comfortable home goes a long way in helping people break the cycles holding them back from living a fulfilled life. LaToyia shares, “I love everyone involved because they didn’t have to help me, but they chose to anyway.” The Compassion Fund at HP Pres is one way that you can choose to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39). It offers relief for those in urgent need by providing for their critical needs including rent, utilities, medical bills and food.

You can follow Jesus’ example of caring for people’s spiritual and physical needs by giving assistance to those going through challenging circumstances. Go to hppres.org/give to help support the Compassion Fund.
