You’re Safe Here

Grief is complicated. It affects us each in unique ways, but we don’t have to go through the grieving process alone. GriefShare offers people a safe place to process loss of a loved one with others who understand what it’s like to grieve.

After serving as a facilitator for three semesters, Debbie shares “The value to the attendees is sharing each other’s stories, thoughts, and hearts. People feel like they’re heard and understood. No one is alone, and they can see that by looking at each other.”

GriefShare meets weekly to support each other through the grief journey. Each session discusses a different part of the grieving process, and everyone is welcome. Debbie shares that “It catches people by surprise sometimes. When you share any kind of loss, people start sharing their similar experience. It gives people the courage to share some things that maybe they didn’t even realize they were feeling.”

After a few semesters, Debbie’s husband, Ross, joined her as a facilitator for GriefShare. Both reflect on how impactful the course has been for them. “Grief is different for every person, but everyone will have to deal with it at some point in their life. We hope to make it a safe place, so they feel comfortable to open up, to share, and to receive a measure of relief.”

Although the process looks different for each person, we all experience grief. God reminds us to “cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken” (Psalm 55:22). You don’t have to navigate the grieving process alone.
