1 Corinthians: Redeeming the Church
If there was one church that caused Paul to pull his hair out and made him age before his time, it was the church in Corinth. The problems were numerous: deep divisions, sexual scandals, and confusion in worship. Tensions in the culture were seeping into the church. What we find in reading this two thousand-year-old letter is that when we look at our problems today, there’s nothing new. How do we live as Jesus followers in a corrupt, often hostile world? The answer is to look at every area of life through the lens of Jesus and the cross. As we anchor our lives in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, we’re drawn into long-suffering love for one another. And we’re reminded that the unity and mission of the church is worth fighting for.
